Background on Literary Agents

Helen Osborne and Ginny Porter have been colleagues in the South Africa Writers’ Circle for more than 10 years.

Their synergistic interest in writing and presenting workshops resulted in the creation of their first book, Getting Published … Art, Science or Luck?  Over the years writers have continually expressed interest in getting their work published and this book addresses the mystique of this venture.

Helen joined the SA Writers’ Circle initially as Functions Manager, and thereafter as Chairman. She has been awarded a number of prizes for her writing, including one concerning the first chapter of a novel. Helen produced and wrote the Happy Hubbies play put on by the Kloof Amateur Drama Society. She has considerable business acumen and contacts in writing.
Ginny joined the SA Writers’ Circle as Public Relations Officer and then performed the dual role of Vice Chairman and PRO. She has been published in a number of magazines and newspapers.

Ginny holds a post graduate diploma in higher education and is presently completing her masters. The focus of the dissertation concerns leadership development at tertiary level. Her interests are predominantly in natural health, education, and student development.

Helen and Ginny initiated and ran the Writers’ Circle Publishing producing a number of books. This service was available only to members of the South African Writers’ Circle and only for those books deemed publishable. Helen and Ginny then decided to start their own business.
